Reviews | By Parent - 06 May 2022, Rate: excellent | The community feeling at this school is fantastic. This year they held an open fun day with jumping castle and animal farm, sporting and craft activities for the kids. There is a dad's social and maintenance group, and a parents and friends association who organise events, raise money and give feedback to leaders. They just did a huge mother's day stall where kids could purchase items and raised thousands of dollars towards a wellbeing room for the kids. I find the other families and kids friendly. | | By Parent - 19 Jun 2021, Rate: excellent | My child is currently at Holy Name. The school community is friendly and diverse in culture and socio economics. There is a very active parent & friends committee and fathers or maintenance group. The patents organise dinners and outings for kids in the holidays. It gives a nice feeling of connection. The vice principal Derryn is invaluable. Both he and the principal Caroline walk the grounds during drop off and pick ups, so they are always around if you have concerns to discuss. They emphasise building relationships with the parents. The teachers are warm, friendly and nurturing towards the children, and happy to discuss progress or concerns about your child. The school has just been partially renovated inside, it looks modern and fresh. The classroom sizes are great for the kids and teaching. The teaching style is a mixture of traditional explicit teaching and then kids working in groups, learning through hands on, collaborating, enquiry and investigation model. They are strong on behavioural expectations, any issues with the kids are quickly sorted out before they escalate. Being a Catholic school there is a small focus on prayer, faith, Easter, Xmas ect, but it's not overbearing or dogmatic. I'm really happy I placed my child here. | | By Alumnus - 25 Aug 2018, Rate: bad | When I was 7 I was accused of stealing a teacher’s “jelly bean jar” simply because I went to the toilet during the time the jar was stolen. They had no other evidence, and the teacher who accused me at the time had said she was questioning other students however she had only questioned me. This isn’t the only bad experience I’ve had at Holy Name, I’ve had multiple and I wouldn’t dare send my kids to this school in the future. | |
