As a student, they care way too much about the school uniform, in learning support they only care about the autistic students, they tell us off for not wearing a blazer when we are walking home, even though we’ve just FINISHED SCHHOOL. The male teachers are SUPER CREEPY about the female’s skirt lengths, the male students look and talk about the females in disturbing ways, the school students make fun of people for being “different”, there’s bulling, and the reception ladies are so unhelpful and blame the students for things that have happened to them. All this school cares about is sport and reputation (I know why they care so much about reputation, because they want a better one that they don’t deserve

As a student in this school, this school isn't as great as it seems, the school cares WAY too much about their uniforms, in previous years when my sport ended at the end of the day we still had to change into our uniforms? and the winter uniform does not keep us warm- they care only about the presentation and not about the students, also we are forced to do pe when its raining, leaving us soaking wet. Also some of the teachers are very creepy and weird, male teachers always have a female teacher's pet they care about more. They ONLY care about the presentation of the school nothing else!!!! Some people also get a detention for wearing the wrong socks and stuff like that? Also the bathrooms are disgusting- if you are sending your kids here for a better education, you are wrong, teachers don't teach properly- most have a short temper and mater dei isn't even in the top 100 academic schools in WA. The only good thing about this school is the programs such as the AFL club and thats it. Also student services seem to not care about you that much. Mater Dei really only concentrates on Sports and Presentation!

This school is awful all the students are horrible and the teachers care about nothing but uniform. We were forced to play pe out in the pouring rain and then got yelled at to get changed, soaking wet into our academic uniform. This then made everyone late to their next class and then we couldn’t partake in the practical of the next class because we were late. I also got a cold because we were forced to play pe out in the rain. Do not send your children to this overpriced shit whole.

was an extremely intolerant disrespectful and utterly ignorant school full of people of that same calibre, I feel sorry for the few decent people having to suffer through their high school years and even more sorry to their parents pouring 6000$ down the drain..

I went to the school in the early 2000s - agree with most of the posters - too focused on outward appearance rather than education. Had a very heavy handed approach to discipline, religion and uniform/appearance. Individuality was not encouraged. If you were great at sport then you were highly celebrated. Being capable and a "good kid", I was basically left to educate myself and did well, not because of teachers. After years of basically no attention, once I graduated and got my TEE results, all of a sudden I was asked to come back and attend ceremonies and masses to celebrate my results - more like promote how good the school was. Teachers were largely disinterested - by that point, they were just doing the minimum to get paid. Most had bad attitudes, were sarcastic and enjoyed embarrassing students. At the time, I thought they were interacting with the students as their equals, but now I look back, being an adult myself and realising how inappropriate it was. I remember in one class, how a PE teacher held a magazine over his head as he walked past knowing that students in the class could see what was in his hand - a pornography magazine and he was laughing about it. I remember how hard the head girl had to fight to be permitted to wear pants in winter, and not a skirt. I remember all the girls being asked to get on their knees to check the length of their skirt - sexist much? I remember many of my classes being filled with the teacher having laughs with the students like they were their peers instead of actually teaching - everyone else had to "self-pace." For this reason, my children have been enrolled in a private school outside of the Catholic faith. It was enough to put me off in that it was all talk, and respect was not actually extended to students. It was all about the students needing to be respectful but it not returned. I think we had one excursion in our five years... to the zoo... I was also shocked that almost 20 years after leaving, their IT department was still very basic - their website is but an example of this - look at their "news" page and their general drop downs. I asked them for a propectus as their website was so clunky (in comparison to say a Joondalup Baptist or Prendiville website who offer a pack you can download and access everything in one place to enable comparison; very user intuitive) and was advised they did not offer this and that I needed to click into each individual year group to find the information to view courses on offer... for the fees you are asking, you need to be able to compete with your competitors. Instead my kids will attend a private school much younger than MDC but that already has the capabilities (and interest) to offer parents the information required to inform such a major decision, with much better results (MDC very rarely features in the top 100 like it used to) with hopefully a nurturing environment. It's just not a good sign or first impression - it's almost an attitude of enrol if you want, don't care if you do - very complacent and disinterested. I definitely don't look back with fond memories. It's not like there was a particularly horrible event, but it was just an overall bad time. I definitely don't feel that way towards my public primary school. Perhaps it is just disappointment that what should have been an enjoyable time in one's life was overshadowed by overly governed and strict caregivers who really didn't look outside the square to come up with creative and fun ways for kids to learn. At least the gardens were well kept - classrooms always dirty and not air conditioned.

Went here back in the 90s. Mr Darren Raymond cornered me one day and said" one day I'll see you out of school". I had no classes with him, no interaction with him. Very threatening behaviour. Fast forward 5 years and who do I see at joondalup shopping centre? Asshole Raymond. Almost passed himself in fear as he struggled to explain to his wife why they had to leave. An absolute coward.

As a student currently attending the school, I wish to say that the way they treat minority groups is abysmal. As I've witnessed, it's mostly groups who go against the Catholic teachings offered at the school. In other words, the LGBTQ+ community.
Now it's a well-known fact that the religious stand against LGBTQ+ people is controversial at best, but that doesn't mean that they have the right to treat the people of that group any lesser than their other students. They're receiving an education here, whether it was their choice or not, their families coughed up the ridiculous fees, don't you think they at least deserve to be treated as people? To be given the same chance to thrive in the community as someone straight or cisgender? This school encourages individuality, yet denies and even ignores those in the LGBTQ+ community. Though I am glad for the small 'safe space' sticker at the counsellor's office, though it's unsure whether the school supports the notion at all.
Aside from that, the teachers are a mixed bag at best. Some teachers do a phenomenal job, making me feel excited to return for the next lesson. Others are terrible, being harsh to students over honest mistakes and dismissing those who genuinely pose a problem to the class. If they do decide to do something about the problematic students, it's ineffective at best. Multiple attempts by our head-of-year have been made to curb the bad behaviour, which mostly have resulted in failure. But that's not their fault, the students are also dodgy.
I'll give credit where its due, the AFL program here is amazing. I don't attend it, but I've read different reviews online and got opinions from those who participate. The opportunity is provides for both male and female students is worth a pat on the back.
The curriculum is ok, the only issues I have with it is its approach to teaching mental-health. It's average at best and insensitive at worst. I've witnessed multiple students upset at the content's delivery, even leaving the class. I've found myself offended at the teachings as well. A small disclaimer at the beginning of a video being shown isn't enough. They need to reconsider their approach before handling topics of concern.
Thank you for reading, a current student.

I’m debating on moving my child, this school is horrid. The teachers are so unprofessional and have the worst attitudes, like we aren’t paying their wages.

Worst school ever, the Racism is absolutely terrible, the students get no punishment after such behaviour. The teachers are also biased, they are rude and not understanding they care more about your stupid ugly uniform more than they care about your mental health. I would rather move to a public school. The students are horrid and this is one of the worst schools I’ve ever seen it should be shut down immediately this pigsty is like the flaming gates of HELL, if you give a single damn about your kids DO NOT send them here. The culture in this school is disgusting and disturbing, some parent should report this to the department of education, everyone is miserable and extremely depressed here it’s like a jail.

don’t go here! i’ve been here for a few years and the teachers are so fake! there’s only a handful who are nice but the rest are so bad, they don’t care about your education and you get a detention for asking a question, the cafeteria has good food but could be cheaper and healthier

Hi Im a student that attends this school I have to say that I was an A student before coming to Mater Dei, I am In year 10 now and Im only just passing on a C-B grade I am very unhappy every time I have to get up in the morning just to go to school, We have many fights at school and when parents confront the school about it they do nothing but recommend us to the guidance councilor,Im Glade that I moved schools, but my sister still attends in year 7, This one day she came home crying because on of her teachers embarrassed her in front of her peers, they called her up to the front and asked why she did so bad in a test she said she didn't understand the content of the test and how it was layed out the teacher sent her to her year cordinator who called my mother about her attutude in class, she will be moving schools this term, Please don't send your chldren here it has bad education and unfair policies that seperate students into factions and to top it all off the school looks like a jail cell with bars on the windows, they even lock the gates after everyone is inside

This school is meant to show respect to student and it dosen't, other parents pay thousands of dollars just like myself and its the biggest waste of money. the teachers cant teach and they don't listen to the students, its sad how a school that is about $1000 a year has way more opportunities then mater dei, don't go here, your child wont learn anything, the school dosent give them any freedom and is %100 control of their laptops. the kids have no fun and the school looks like a jail. very few teachers are good. i've being told by my child so many students have dropped out or left to go to other schools. it shows its not just one person dosen't like the way the school is run. its un organised and they need to stop doing every thing online. foods expensive in the canteen and the uniform shop only takes card. stupidest thing i've heard. the uniform is ugly and is expensive. DON'T GO TO THIS SCHOOL its a waste of money.

This is the worst school that iv sent my child to the teachers are terrible they do nothing about your questions there is no excursions and my child cries every single night because of the teachers and usually it would be about students but no the teachers are terrible and trust me I've seen what hey do. I do not recommend this school at all the classrooms are disgusting and they make the students clean the rooms and set up the assemblies while the teachers stay and chat the prices of the food it beyond exaggeration and the fees are not worth a cent they make the school seem so nice and friendly and warm but really it's like living with Devils and it's so pretty on the outside but on the inside its horrible in the classrooms the teachers never check what my child does or is doing even with other students they never check the homework and I swear if seen they have no air conditioners anywhere only in the berni boss hall and benidict building because outsiders can see and the school or should I say devil school want people to think it's so nicey nicely and there was an up and go drink that was empty since my child has been there for years and never been taken down of the shelf in one of the classrooms they always smell like fish and it's very unorganized he teachers ask the students "when's the test again?" Or "when's the assignment due" I mean the teachers are asking the students for crying out loud and when there is a test my child will ask when it is and the teacher will say I don't know I'll have to ask the teacher next door then he next day the teacher will say or guys the test is this Friday DONT GO TO THIS SCHOOl for your own good everyone hates it there and it's 100 on the ranking
