The school prioritises their image over education which is one of the many reasons I decided to leave. The teachers can be unprofessional as before I left, I had two teachers swear at me because they weren’t happy that multiple students were moving to a nearby school.

Went for 4 years had to leave because of the lack in recourses from teachers to material. I was one of the smartest at Emmaus however when I transferred and evaluated at St Marys senior I was incredibly behind, it took most of pre-lim to catch up with the kids from better schools.

I graduated in 2009 - would never ever send my children here. My sister was bullied so horribly she had to leave, there no assistance from the school.
I was not allowed to join any extra curricular sports or music programs as I was not a star player yet (I feel like if kids wanna play, let them! Who knows if I would've ended up good). In year 12 they banned any extra curricular anyway. They actually completely eliminated drama whilst I was there which was my only creative outlet.
Emmaus have this idea of their reputation being of utmost important, they believe this is achieved by LOOKING like a fancy private school without actually offering any of the care or opportunities that these schools offer. I was there from year 7 to 12 and saw them change the uniform and the uniform rules to better look like North Shore Private schools but did nothing else. I still recall listening to the very first speech made by the new principal, which was more him yelling at us for wearing anklet socks when our uniform rules said 'ankle socks'. A quick check of our diaries showed the rules did, in fact, say 'anklet' so the following day this new principal had us all scratch that out in our diaries and rewrite 'anklet'. This was his introduction to us. This is the sort of ridiculousness the school was obsessed with.
We were not allowed free periods whatsoever and had to spend them in utter silence in a 'study hall' where we couldn't even work in groups. Honestly, kids doing their HSC are already under heaps of pressure and allowing a free period here and there would've probably been good for them. This school had absolutely no interest in their student's wellbeing, only their performance (religious expression mainly). I was an atheist and was 'outed' in my year 9 religion class. This followed a year of the teacher mocking me until I moved into year 10.
Just to be clear, if you have aspirations for your child outside of religious expression - this is not the school for them. My children will be going to my husband's high school, he had a much better school experience where sport/art/music/second language outlets are offered.

I am going to send my son to this school and read the reviews are so disappointed, why the review of this school is so under the average?

I went to this school for 2 years and learned that when in groups, its easy to throw your teacher into a state of frustration so bad she starts to bang her head on the floor. Most memorable experience was the time one boy brought in a ball of wool and created a giant 'web' throughout the classroom. Glad i got out. Definitely became a better person for it.

I graduated from Emmaus in 1996. Was horribly bullied right up until the day I graduated, even on the graduation platform. Have been invited to attend high school reunions and flat out refuse to go. In terms of learning, you really have to take ownership for it yourself. Maths teacher was incredibly lazy but the handful of passionate teachers made up for it. But I would be have benefited from smaller classes with teachers that took an interest in my curiosity and potential.

Staff only care about the respect for the school. They won’t care about either your child/ren or their education.

i went to this school and all they taught me was a dumb reason why you shouldn’t wear rings to school. this school is all about having respect for it, not the education.

I have written a review about this school before, about how this school operates, & how, I have solved problems, that have affected, both my children, that attend Emmaus Catholic College. I now, have a better understanding, of what the problems are, in relation to this school. 1. As a parent, can you understand, that education, does not start, or end at school. Your child also needs guidance, as well as ongoing support from the parents. That's the first problem, you can't simply send your child to school, expecting the teachers to teach your child 100 percent. 2. The child has to be willing, to wan't to learn, or quite frankly, you are just wasting your time & money, by sending them to this school. My two children, were put into classes, with students, that did not care, about learning, the fellow students were disruptive & trouble making. So I consulted the Assistant principle. Now my two children are in extended learning classes, along with students, who do care about learning. However, yes I agree, there has been too many, new Principles, that have been employed to run this school, & yes thuggery, theft also occur at this school, but as a parent, it is also up to you to do something about it, if you sincerely care about your child's future. I shall also state, I have researched alternate schooling, but I have also found out, that there is even worse!

Please do not send your child to this disgraceful school where there is bullying, harrasment, theft, thuggery. New principles of this school are ruining its reputation.

I have two children that attend this school. Also, yes problems have been encountered. When this has affected either of my two children, I have immediately contacted the Assistant Principal, to try & arrest the problem. As some comments here have stated, there has been to many "Changes of the Principal. This is the first problem. It is common knowledge, that a lot of the students attending this School, just don't care about education, & quite honestly it starts at home, in many cases. Why send your children to Emmaus Catholic College, if they don't care about leaning, just send them to one of the governments schools. In general the whole Education system has been completely stuffed up. The Curriculum has been watered right down, & now the students have to take part in this ridiculous NAPLAN test. This is a speed test, that heads of the Education Department, use as a gauging tool. Totally wrong. Finally if brutal thuggery is allowed to continue at this school, sooner or later, there shall be no pupils to attend. Also, for any parents who sincerely care about their children's education please find the time to look up "Select School" Some are government schools too.

School isn't perfect yet, but isn't bad either. Was amazing under instruction of Paul Ryan but has since been put down by principal reliving for Paul Ryan. Since, Peter Brogan took place and bought the school up hence the rating. Since the College have a new appointment of a perm. principal - Rob Nastasi. College is in amazing hands and seems that it will be getting better as the years pass on. Could improve on minor distributions to learning and bullying incidents, though. I'm an employee and commenced at the College in 2011.

For 9 moths we have had nothing but trouble at this school. Bullying is horrendous. I agree with the parent who said until a strong boss is brought into the school it will continue to fail. The seniors are atrocious instead of being peers that can be looked up to they are the bullies. Bullying is illegal and all they do is follow up with incident reports to cover themselves and not support the victim. We are trying to get our kids into another school as the support is useless. We've had two other kids at this school as few years ago and it was much better then it is today. If you can find another school rather then Emmaus do so all you'll be paying for is disruption to your child's education and bullying

Sorry, I am a parent not an employee. Of course there are great staff and students but the poor behaviour and disrespect of a large number of students is disgraceful. Teaching and learning is continually disrupted by poor behaviour. Until we get a strong boss the school will continue to flounder. A major change in direction is a must. Do not send your child here. If they are at the school then take them out. I feel so sorry for the good kids. Perhaps if the numbers start to fall and more parents start complaining something will get done and the teachers will finally be able to teach and the kids learn.

I go to Emmaus and it's the worst school I have ever been to. I have been assaulted numerous times, Slapped across the face by a boy, choked and kicked by a girl, etc. We do many hours of music, art, religion, etc. and only 2 hours of sport a week.
