Ruse is a school where students are universally supportive of one another - encourage and celebrate the success of their peers. They all share a common goal to achieve their individual best, and typically that is the result. It is a unique environment of almost universal student harmony across and within the grades - an experience foreign to most high school students in Australia, whether from independent, private or public schools. 6 of the best years of my life ! |

-A serious review from someone who actually GOES HERE- Honestly the reason why we’re number one every year is because we’re number one every year. And smart kids like to be surrounded by other smart kids. We have a lot of clubs and extracurricular activities here and the teachers all encourage us to join them so we can become “all-rounded”. There’s also yearly fitness tests. Agriculture is compulsory until year 11. Yes we have cows, chickens, sheep and horses. You’re also marked on the crops you grow in class plots. There’s also technology (metalwork and woodwork) but no cooking or textiles or any special subjects for girls, since James Ruse was originally a boys only school. Carlingford is very hot in summer and the fans in the hall doesn’t really work. Some of the classrooms are kinda old. (But the P&C will probably “refurbish” them soon) Our teachers are okay depending on who you get. Conclusion: Come to us!!! And thanks for listening to my non logically sequenced mess of an essay

I don't go to this school, but is it bad that I look up to them? I'm also in a selective school but it isn't the best. I was thinking of applying to this school but I'm clueless |

This is an amazing school I always had a dream to go into this school but sadly I could't pass the selective test. Any way congratulations to all the people who made it in this year and good luck on turning over a new leaf. |

This school touched my son's private bags. The boys in this school tried to lick my son's ice cream. Also, don't forget about the fact they tried to make my daughter suck on their crispy nuts they brought from home. |

James Ruse acts like they're on top of the world and is the best in NSW, because that's what they are. They're hogging the first place spot in HSC because... Who wouldn't want to hog it? I went to James Ruse and I would like to say the environment is hardly competitive. It's more of a regular high school, but everyone is a genius so being smart isn't special. All the best games at James Ruse aren't throwing potatoes at each other, or maths quiz wars. (It's actually spot the white guy or the blonde/red hair guy |

I find the hating on this school quite fascinating. To me, there's no better model of fairness than meritocracy (by definition, more or less), and no better model of meritocracy than our selective school system. It doesn't matter who your parents are, where you were born, who you know, how much money you have, what your religious beliefs are (if any), what language you speak at home or whether or not you throw a ball like a girl - if you pass a standardised test of mental aptitude, you're accepted and given the opportunity to be among peers who will likely push you to achieve more (academically) than you might have otherwise. Now think about that entire previous paragraph in the context of private schools, entry criteria and financial (as opposed to academic) success in later life. Why are we still hating on selective schools? Some deep-seated belief that exploiting your parents' hard-earned wealth and connections is fine, but your studying hard and exploiting your own personal attributes is not? I don't get it. I've got nothing against private schools; in fact I believe their existence is a good thing (their receipt of public funding, on the other hand, perhaps not so much) - but I just like to use them as a convenient and interesting contrast to gain perspective on our attitudes to selective schools. There is one obvious potential downside from the selective school policy and that is that it robs the average student of some likelihood of being co-located with a relatively academically-inclined student. A valid whinge, therefore, might be that whatever associated costs accrue to the average student outweigh whatever associated benefits accrue to the selective high school student. That's a bloody hard argument to make either way, so I just don't know what all the fuss is about. I'm white, by the way; but no more or less aussie than any of my fellow multilingual and multicultural alumni who no doubt would've been picked on, bullied, ridiculed and generally made to feel miserable 10 times over in any other school. |

i compare this to hitler's systematic nazi ideology in which he implemented eugenics 'weeding out the weaker ones in the population', james ruse is a farce and we all know it, hogging the no. 1 rankings every year in hsc, what da hell???. well guess what there are better out there in the world who will make not only a difference but a better difference in the world out there. |

lol can't tell the difference amongst the asians in james ruse, word of praise and advice to ya all. you are very sweet, caring people. however stop being such airheads and sticking your heads in the clouds, and stop living in a bubble have some well informed knowledge of what's going on in the world around you. i met a girl from there who didn't even know about the persecution of the falun dafa people in her own country, such a shame. get real for once and stop having the biggest ego, you not on top of the world |

It doesn't matter what school where you go it the effort on the student put in. The more effort the students put in the better the outcome that it very true |

This school does not build a complete all-round student - the kids have no independence once they leave as they're spoon fed for HSC success - ie. to appease teacher remuneration. This is not enough when they reach UNI and the real world. |
