I honestly can't believe this school hasn't been investigated by the department. The bullying amongst students is uncontrolled and poorly handled with multiple and sometimes extremely serious racial, homophobic and sexist incidents occurring. Not to mention classroom facilities are falling apart and the toilets are disgusting.

This school is a good school you should send your children here.

I go here and I reckon it’s a sporty school and I am an academy member so I love it it’s very motivating and positive and to who ever is making angry comments saying all this school cares about is sport then go to another cause this school is training goats.

Rampant bullying that is poorly dealt with to protect the schools already poor reputation. Not to mention numerous facilities such as toilets and classrooms are falling apart or non functional whilst sport programs seem to constantly receive state of the art treatment and equipment. Not a school for academic success thats for sure.

This school is really good and all of the sports programs are awesome. All of the teachers are good and the classrooms are great except in the northern courtyard they just need a bit of upgrading that's all. The canteen is so good they have so many options to choose from and it's not even that expensive at all.

Absolutely disgraceful

Teacher practices are questionable at best - yelling at students is a standard teaching technique so is putting them in seclusion it seems! Middle leadership is appalling - too inexperienced with a punitive approach to anything out of the box. I liken this school to a juvenile justice centre. Fights are a common occurrence and sports academies are over rated. Avoid this school at all costs. Biggest mistake to choose this school - took my child out after 18 months. Many students leave this school after short periods of time. Don’t be fooled by what is on show on a tour or open night. Plenty of other better schools around.

i'm a parent here. but there have been a lot of problems with this school and the proof is the reviews and this has been the reason some kids are depressed it makes me sad when a good school is tarnished from the teachers and the principles honestly i think they should fire everyone and
Alumnus is totally right and my child has been here for 6 years its very sad because of the horror story my child has told me it sickens me to say this there is a lot of bullying and favouring in this school as well and they apparently have a "no bullying tolerance" its very sad they need to reshape them self's into something more something differnet

Needs more interest and involvement with the students who don't use the academy, other than that the teachers and students are good. I came for the education, but I am staying for the people.
By Alumnus - 18 Apr 2020, Rate: poor
Not a good school academic or arts wise. The budget for art subjects is $0 so students are expected to cough up for curriculum activities. Meanwhile sports is catered to almost fully. Really dissapointing considering how low this schools academic success rate is. They rely on the international program to boost the academics of the school. Not to mention the state of the bathrooms is always dirty and appauling in fact only 2 blocks of toilets are available to the WHOLE student body which took almost 3 years for action to be taken. meanwhile there are still toilet blocks that have been closed for renovation for about 6 years. The teachers at this school are largely hit or miss. Often experienced teachers with really bad attitudes and either treat you like you're unintelligent or don't actually understand what they are teaching. Don't get me started on the anti bullying policy as i witnessed countless cases of bullying go undealt with or the perpetrators were let off with a slap on the wrist even after a physical altercation. Would strongly advise against this school all in all.

My 3 children have all attended forest hill college over the last decade also including 2019 VCE year. I am very pleased with the well rounded individuals that they have become. They are all doing amazingly with study or study/work life balance and my eldest two have followed interests to achieve the career of choice or work towards it with my admiration and support. My youngest child had the sports academy opportunities.....Fiona Johnson

Have nothing but good things to say about our experience at Forest Hill. It's really changed a lot in the past few years and defintely for the better. The transition was smooth and any minor problems we had were dealth with quickly and with really good communication. Definitely worth taking a tour- they take you into classrooms and you get to see everything.

My husband and I have been really satisfied with our daughter’s Year 9 at Forest Hill College. Coming to the school at the beginning of the year (from another school), her results so far have been really good and she is showing more confidence and interest in subjects she used to find too challenging. The transition into the school was great and she was really supported by the teachers as she got used to the new environment. Highly recommend!!

this school is full of bulling, starting from above (David Rogers) he is the main problem, i really dont understand how the department just rolled over his contract for another 5 years, without advertising the position. they have coaches who are not teachers taking classes and teaching students. no idea how that is aloud, you also have the the head soccer coach having an affair with a parent and all David Rogers could do was to place the student to another school.
By Alumnus - 27 Sep 2019, Rate: poor
Would not recommend sending your children to this school. They say there is a "no tolerance" bullying policy however countless instances of bullying frequently occur and the responses from staff to this kind of behaviour is lacking. Whilst there are some wonderful teachers the majority are ill-equipped at teaching (some with questionable methods) teenage audiences with terrible understanding for mental health and the difficulties faced by students. The toilet facilities are ussually unhygenic with visible feaces and sanitary products not disposed of. Acedemics is not the top of this schools priorities as sports is frequently given state of the art equiptment, facilities and excursions/incursions. This is evident based on the "Leonardo Centre" which already began deteriorating within 5 or so months with broken light fixtures, non functional heating and cooling and poorly designed chaotic layout.

An amazing place! You MUST go on a tour with the Principal. Hearing of the journey the College has been on and where they are headed, there is no way you won't be impressed. So much is on offer in and out of the classroom. Their entire approach to learning is unique and refreshing, focussing on effort and the journey rather than the outcome. Valuing growth and participation as much as the highest academic achievers. They clearly value every individual's strengths, interests and goals. Definitely worth a look!

As a parent of a child at this school I have been blown away not only by the innovative approach FHC has but also the focus on academics my own child has experienced.
By Alumnus - 22 Nov 2018, Rate: excellent
All of these reviews are overwhelmingly negative, and, for the most part, completely incoherent and lack any foundation of fact. Just because FHC has broadened its focus beyond academics doesn't mean it is a bad educational institution, it provides more students the opportunity to thrive. The teachers are absolutely amazing, and are so dedicated at what they do. They're committed to helping you succeed. I'd not be who I am today without the countless amazing teachers I had throughout my time at FHC.
By Student - 08 Nov 2018, Rate: poor
This school is terrible. Not only are the bathrooms disgusting, other students bully and make up rumours about each other constantly and the teachers refuse to do anything about it and there are lots of horrible teachers too. there are teachers that yell horrible things at students almost every lesson and others that don't even teach and expect kids to learn for themselves. There is a serious lack of focus on academics, art and there is almost no real support for student. They only care about their reputation, DONT SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS SCHOOL
By Alumnus - 06 Nov 2018, Rate: poor
This school really doesn't seem to give a toss about academics or the arts, at least not as much as it does about sports. The toilets are in a perpetually unsanitary state as there are only 2 blocks of toilets for the entirety of the school. Whilst the international student program is an asset they do not treat the toilets that are located right beside the facility, in a hygienic manner so their is constantly faeces on the floor or seats. Many teachers are good, however, a large amount of teachers have big egos whilst seeming to lack skills or capacity to teach or engage adolescents.

By Student - 19 Mar 2016, Rate: poor
so much potential wasted. This school was actually starting to improve until the soccer program was introduced and the school spends all of its money and energy making soccer fields rather than fixing the toilets. The soccer kids get their own uniform and it makes them seem more superior to everyone else. the school puts limited effort into arts and academia.
By Student - 18 Mar 2016, Rate: bad
this school just keeps getting worse, honestly if the school actually cared about the students who aren't paying $3,000 (soccer program) to be here then maybe it might be half decent. if there were functional and CLEAN toilets for students to use then maybe they might actually want to use the toilet facilities. Does anyone know the queen well i don't but our school treats the soccer program like royalty, allowing them to say and do anything to students and teachers, not to mention being able to wear there own special uniform that isn't uncomfortable and hell like the normal ones. i have been here since year 7 and watch the school fall and crumble my friends have done all we can to try and fix the damage and we talked to Mr Rogers (principal) about some serious improvements only to be ignored.

This school only focuses on its very best students and students who aren't apart of programs such as the football and tennis program, are payed little attention to and the staff make little effort to engage them as much as the students in the program. The college spent money on soccer pitches before they renovated the toilets. During the exam period the school had only one toilet block open for the female students which on had 3 functional toilets which had to cater for 250+ students. In addition the state of the toilets were disgusting. At one point the office staff had to be informed that none of the toilets in the only operating toilet block had any paper. None of the female students could use the toilet during the recess break. Instead of spending the money on two new soccer pitches, fix up the toilets!
The school are fixing up the toilets and other buildings and hopefully they will be done by the end of semester one likely promised.
One of the main reasons I chose Forest Hill College in the first place was due to the fact that it was a small school so each students was cared for. Now with my year level getting a third more students this year, there is going to be even less focus on the normal students and more on the ones involved in the football, tennis or netball program.
This school is a great school if you get involved in one of the sporting programs such as football program as you will get to go on excursion to bounce, the beach, the pools, into the city and so on. If you don't plan on joining one of those programs then it is best not to go to this school.
Overall when I first came to the school I loved it, but now with condition of the toilets and with many students feeling inferior of the football kids, I would only rate this school a 4/10.

Interesting to read the misinformation from a few reviewers on this site regarding the school.
I'm currently enrolled at the school in the soccer program. Our academic achievement and progress is assessed twice as hard & double the frequency of the 'normal' pupil. I need to prove that I am doing well in my studies otherwise, I'm out! The staff at FHC is very supportive of all students. The school is not a baby sitting service. If you need help, you can't assume teachers can read minds. You need to put you hand up and ask for it. You need to grow up and be responsible for yourself.
The building improvement issue is interesting. As far as I know, the College is pushing the Education Department every part of the way and has been doing so for a while. It is the bureaucrats holding up progress.
I enrolled in the Soccer program because my aim is to get a Diploma of Sports Management at Melbourne Uni. This program offers a direct pathway that no other school has.

I totally agree with the previous comment the school only really has eyes for the soccer program but what do they really do play soccer when its needed at interschool sports? But they have normal students for that. The school really needs to step up and get into line because the more the soccer program grows the less regular students will want to attend. The soccer program has also contributed to a majority of the bullying. I have also found that the principal says things for show. It sort of reminds me of australian parliament we are promised things and then never get them. Has nobody seen the toilets here at forest hill? There is appalling graffiti everywhere many things don't actually work like the hand dryer. One of the reasons i came to this school in year seven was that i was told the this school had a strict zero bullying tolerance but again i was promised something and never got it. I think the school has sort of realised that the soccer program has taken over, but they created a dance program what? im sure a handful of students would enjoy a dance program but i'm sure a arts program that could cross over all areas of art would be great. A subject where all art subject could be explored like dance, fashion design or anything to increase their academia. Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard. FHC you need to work HARD.

I was about to write a comment, then saw that today, two other comments have been posted and im actually not surprised. The college is spending all money that they have saved for the past 7 years on the Internation Soccer Program. There is an extreme amount of bullying. Students make up so many rumours and harras other innocent students, and teachers do absouloutley nothing. My child has recieved an extreme amount of hate, and the principal will do nothing at all because those students are "on top" of the fhc ladder.

Seriously, this school rates itself as an anti-bullying school. What a joke..... My daughter was bullied to the point where we took her out of the school.
There was no support from the Acting principal, all he did was support the bully and no support for my daughter or for us as a family.
This school was lucky I didn't report them to the education department.
By Student - 04 Jul 2015, Rate: average
I actually believe this school has potential and is trying to get a good reputation but there is so much lacking in the way of student support and teaching quality. One concern is that the school is placing sporting achievment as a higher priority then acedemia and arts. I would say another main concern is the state of student toilets which are in bad condition and students were told that they would be fixed soon well they have been saying that for 3 years now
By Student - 15 Jun 2015, Rate: poor

This unfortunate school needs to improve significantly and quickly. The culture at this school needs addressing, students need to be taken in hand and streamed into learning areas that suit them. The quality of teaching is questionable, although this is not always the teachers fault. Its impossible to teach the one or two interested kids in the class if the other 23 are mucking around. Get your discipline together, be quick to call in parents and guardians if students are consistently being a problem and teach your kids the value of academia. Please suspend the real bullies and make it a safe place for those students who actually want to attend. Also, the gender balance is wrong. Look at the more successful State schools in the area and you will notice there is a greater percentage of girls enrolled. This is no accident!!!

As a former student/Senior School Captain, there's no worse place to go if you're looking for a school to go to within the eastern suburbs. Had to self study for all my subjects in year 12, and the teachers had no idea about the standards or knowledge required to do well in VCE. I can assure you, a majority of students received an atar of 50 and below, and I don't blame them because they had no idea what they were doing due to poor teaching.

I am currently attending this school, and I have to say, its pretty bad. Most of the students have no respect for themselves and others. Most of the teachers don't care about the students or their futures. There are some wonderful teachers, but only a small handful. I have also made some good friends, but am bullied constantly. I dont feel comfortable seeing teachers about it, which means I get more and more depressed. I suppress this by trying my best at this extremely bad school that is turning into a completely sport-focused school.

Overall, I was very disappointed with the lack of support (both emotional and academic support) that I failed to receive from my teachers. This is a school that apparently prides itself on offering a 'supportive, safe and secure learning environment', yet this wasn't the case for me at all. Throughout my time at Forest Hill College, I dealt with bullying on numerous occasions and I assure you that my teachers did not assist me in any way, nor was I ever offered any emotional support from any member of staff. It?would appear to me that a large number of teachers at this school lack understanding and compassion, they seem to take an autocratic approach to educating their students, which is not going to create a positive learning culture or motivate children to learn at all. This isn't the only complaint I have - I also felt that many of the teachers at this school failed to properly prepare students for their assessment tasks and examinations, which ultimately resulted in poor results across the board, and I'm certain a large number of the student population would agree with me here. However, despite the many unfavourable teachers present at this school, I should not discredit the small number of teachers who are outstanding and I believe should be commended for their method of teaching. Although it is unfortunate that the bad far outweigh the good at Forest Hill College. Comparing to other secondary schools and tertiary institutes, I would rate this school very poorly and I'd strongly discourage parents from sending their child here.
I'm , rate this school
