This school is very diverse and encouraging. Our principal is excellent at encouraging nude food and healthy eating into kids at APS from as young as year 1. I still currently attend this school and will graduate next year. This school is like any other co - ed public primary school in Aus. It's academic rates are overall outstanding, but this school has some flares. Swearing is a problem, but has gotten better over the years as our principal is managing it well. Bullying is not very common. The staff are highly trained and approach children with generosity and kindness. We are constantly recognised for our achievements in and outside the classroom. I would not rather go any wear else but Artarmon public school.

Then look no further, APS has you sorted.

I was a student in an opportunity class from 1959 to 1960. My teacher was Connie Burns who encouraged me greatly with my art. I enjoyed choir with Fred Lowry and playing tenor recorder. Victor MacMahon, who was one of the instigators of recorder lessons in schools used to visit and later taught me the flute. I went to North Sydney Girls’ High after Artarmon. Then moved to Tasmania where I became a languages, music and Special Education teacher in Burnie. When I retired I took up art and sold some of my work. I also worked as a tour guide for a handmade paper mill called Creative Paper. Was anyone else at Artarmon at the same time as I was? Robyn H.

Ah, Molly King. A great teacher. I was in an Opportunity class in about 1949/50. I was a little lost as son of a carpenter amongst the children, it seemed, of solicitors and doctors. A kick start, and I still love classical music which the SSO concerts to which we were privileged to attend introduced us. Alas the high school system and my age didn't work for me. But I had a fairly satisfying career nevertheless.

This school has a bad community and culture. The social environment is full of gaming, swearing and comparing grades and tutoring locations. This school pollutes children's mind with its toxic atmosphere and unfriendly community. In APS many children as young as Year 2 can be seen in the playground swearing angrily repeatedly at peers with teachers nearby doing extremely little. The school's score in tests may be good because smart children live in and move to the area but they're teaching is average. The grounds are WAY too small for the amount of children they have and students are forced to play on a burning hot and flat field of fake grass (Thomson Oval) which is public. Litter and random things are left there and often it is shared with (not all good) members of the public. The security is also lacking as people random people enter and exit the school. In one incident 20+ glass bottles were left on campus, some still with beer inside and graffiti of crude images is left on walls in the school.

The two years I spent in the late Miss Molly King's Opportunity Class made a huge difference in my education and life outcomes. Having achieved a PhD and a full professor position, I credit Miss King, Mr Kelvin Leitch and the school with setting and expecting the highest standards, and providing the support we needed to achieve. Those lessons travelled with us, even now, 50 years since I started there.

Overrated and overcrowded, an OK school.
Artarmon gets good results but people fail to realise many of the students also have private tutoring on weekends which contributes to that. Not sure if that's true for other schools but it is big in this area.
Quite crowded, last check around 8 kindergarten classes alone, very little play area as more and more demountables and buildings are erected. Canteen is good. School a bit obsessed with its band.
Girls winter uniform buttons on the shoulders making it difficult to do up, especially for young ones. It's open at the sides, not a very good or attractive design.

Really good school, very easy to make friends and to get good grades

Education and activities good but way too crowded. No playground equipment and not enough space. Too much pressure to do homework, too competitive, not much art taught. Not great if you like a tight knit community feeling.
