As was mentioned before, the school's facilities tend to be of a rather poor quality and organisation in general is sub-par. In contrast to its label as an academically fixated institution, the school highly encourages extracurricular involvement from the student body, separating it from other schools of its kind. The teaching staff are solid and promote intellectual rigor in order to allow for a high quality of education.

i'm currently in year twelve, however only moved to the school at the beginning of year ten, having gone to st marys previously. i do think the school is a good school, however too much emphasis is placed upon independent learning and teachers expect students to excel without giving much direction or offering much help. i appreciate the skills i picked up at st marys, as they came in excellent use at smiths hill. i seemed to excel at basic skills compared to all the other students, however the other students excelled at the more difficult stuff, as they had been taught to focus on this. generally, the facilities aren't very good, and the school is very impoverished, however that may the case at all public schools. i believe the school needs more funding to properly accommodate for all the students. generally, the school is rather boring, there hasn't been one fight the entire time i have been here, and students are usually well behaved. the only problem is the teacher's attitude and the possibly unhealthy competitive environment.
