Ashburton does not belong to the city of Monash, it belongs to the city of Boorondara.

Ashburton is a great place to live (tree lined streets, low density compared to surrounding suburbs (mostly single houses with backyards not units), lots of new houses replacing the old, proximity to high street shops, chadstone shopping centre (one of the biggest in Melbourne). The median price is $1.4m+ according to REIV and quickly heading to $2m as evidenced by recent sales. Still good value in the south east corner (~$1.3m) as the ex housing commission area (built after world war 2 for returning servicemen) is rapidly transforming for the better
