What is significant?
The former Church of England Vicarage, designed by FJ Brearely and constructed in 1889-90, at 34 Bakewell Street, Cranbourne.
How is it significant?
The former Church of England Vicarage is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Casey.
Why is it significant?
Historically, the former Church of England Vicarage is significant for its association with the establishment of the Church of England in Cranbourne, a Parish which grew to include Pearcedale, Tooradin and Clyde. The former vicarage represents the solidity of the church and also of the area, indicated by the need of the church to build a vicarage specifically for that purpose. (AHC criteria A4, D2 & H1)
Aesthetically, the former Church of England Vicarage is significant as a representative example of a late Victorian cottage, which contributes to the complex of buildings that also includes the Church immediately to the rear. (AHC criterion E1)
