The kings school is a good school. It’s amazingly well rounded and the boys are second to none in the GPS circle when it comes to many diffirent aspects. HOWEVER- as much as I love the kings school, it’s is genuinely being ruined by Tony George. This headmasters head is so far up his own arse that it isn’t funny. The place has changed from something special and it is extremely sad to see the pre 2018 culture of the school disintegrate every semester. Downhill untill several staff in high positions and Tony George are sacked- Tim Hawkes was a headmaster who was actually in touch with reality.

Old boy staff members are treated like royalty. You’ll find most if not all of them in positions created just for them or in promotions they haven’t deserved. No matter what mistake they make, the Old Boys are protected whilst others are thrown under the bus (the firing of Mr Moroney is the perfect example).

All teachers are bias. Boarders picked on my son who is a day boy… The school is really poor with the academics and some teachers could not care less.

I really think parents who are on this forum and giving ridiculously emotive negative comments should just move to another school. If you are so disappointed etc then move. Why you would leave your child there is questionable.
My son has had an extremely positive experience at King's. The experiences both academic and co curricula are outstanding.

Consider this before sending your boys to the Kings school.This school has a long history of bullying/Raciisim/homophobia and is a toxic environment to educate young men.The killing of a poor goanna by senior students on a recent cadet camp at singleton army base is appalling.The school did their best to keep it hush for 3 weeks.Now it is out there in the
media and their show pony headmaster has decided to go to the media on his own will and basically stick up for his students actions.Claiming “we have a dead goanna”and there is the possibility that his students may not have killed. It.WTF Toney George?Please explain further!I am sure the school would have carried out their own investigation before the students involved were suspended!

This school is constantly trying to cover up bad behaviour. A goanna was tortured and killed by a group of students that was reported to the police by staff. The Head Master of the school releases a statement on how tough it is for these students, the same students that tortured and killed an animal. Take accountability where it falls due. Absolutely appalling.

The school does well to make people feel proud of it, perhaps even using this as a marketing tactic to strengthen positive views (e.g. psychology research by Marcouyeux & Fleury-Bahi 2011). But is it good really? As a parent, I don't think so. Discipline is boxed in, so my child is good in school but more unruly out of school. Hardly a sense of character building. Do they support my son? No, because if they did then why do he and many others need private tuition? Yes, there's lots happening. And believe me, you pay for them all. But is it creating a young man, as the King's "Boys to Men" program promises? No. And for that reason, to consider this school as positive for your son is perhaps a big mistake

Although the school may look unacademic, it comes down to the student. Without trying and giving it your best, your son will do badly. My son is really giving it a shot at everything and his sports and academics are really super.

This is a bad school that takes advantage of pupils. This is a region that only white farmers may enjoy. Racism is ingrained in the values of The King School. Teachers are untrustworthy and turn a blind eye to bullying and other issues. Don't be deceived by the front-of-the-store lies. Teachers are apathetic, and many kids' grades suffer as a result of their attendance at this institution. I promise you will not be sorry for listening to and following my counsel. THIS SCHOOL SHOULD NOT BE ATTENDED!

Please do your homework before you send your child here. You need to do more than the tour in terms of due diligence - attend a few events and talk to people.......the culture is quite dated, the school has a strong military focus and kids are taught under very heavy manners

Ever since the last headmaster retired, the school has lost its credibility. The new head was brought in to make the school more Christian, but he only talks about himself. Apparently the school board are just retired priests and will support him because his father was a missionary. The parents are complaining and the staff are leaving... it’s a sinking ship.

Possibly the worst headmaster in the history of the school. It appears that over 60% of the teachers have left and almost all of the executive have also gone. Enough!!!

The new principal has sorted the bullying problem at the school, and the pastoral care is now excellent. The school suits my non-sporty son very well, we are very pleased with his progress.

Honestly disappointing. I sent my son here and all they are focused on is sports. Academics are terrible and the teachers are biased.
The students always think that they are higher than others especially boarders. Boarders think that they are above Day Boys (Students that don't live on campus) and have the right to make fun of or blame things on Day Boys. It's not just boarders but there are other rotten students as well.
The things my son has told me about the food makes me concerned. He eats and happily finishes food at home without being asked to finish it, but at this school by the sounds of it it's like they are serving prison food.
This is false advertisement. I would definitely not send your son here if you have value for education because apparently, sports have priority over education as well as the fact there are rotten students.

With two boys having been at the school since Kindergarten and one just leaving in year 12.
We are more then happy with their progress and the quality of young man coming out of the school.
At all times the teachers and school staff have been outstanding in their support and quality of teaching has been first class taking our boys to a whole new level.
Yes there is a focus on some sports over others but this is to be found no matter where you go and our two boys were not rugby,rowing or cricket lovers but found other sports in the school which they loved so it was all good just the same.
We would rate the school 100%++ for all they have done for our two boys.
One very happy parent. 100+ for Kings

I regret enrolling my son here. It’s not academic focused at all, which you think it would be considering the fees. They don’t really care about what is best for each boy, only promoting those who are gifted by their own accord.
They try to push up their ATAR ranking by offering scholarship. The only positive is the boys do a few days of sport but this could be done elsewhere on your own time in other schools & save yourself the $30k+ . A total waste of money!

This school is not for a scholar or an academic. The system I control bullying is weak and useless. I strongly recommend that you do not send your son to this school. Yes this school has a long history and is high in results but if your son has extra curricular activities outside of school this school will disrupt all of those activities with stupid compulsory events that have nothing to do with your son. There are also compulsory cadets and camp which will also disrupt your son’s academic progress. Some subjects like biblical studies and english are compulsory and subjects like maths are optional in upper years. The school is full of useless teachers and staff as well.

The school is amazing and opens the doors to many opportunities in many different subjects that you won't be able to study at most schools. Though it's not for everyone the school specifically only really cares about Rugby, Rowing and Cricket they give little attention to other sports. Also, your son needs to be quite strong and funny to mix in with the jocks and if they don't they could be bullied. Overall with my experience as a rugby and cricket player, life is easy and fun most the time but I can't speak on behalf of all King's boys.

This school is very good at promoting and marketing their image. I totally agree that Kings school looks very good outside and on the poster. But what is it like inside?
Bullying, favouritism, lack of response/action from the arrogant management and the teachers with our concern raised for my son. We have withdrawn our son from this school. Trust me, it’s definitely not a school that you would like to send your son to.

This school is a disgrace . The headmaster and deputy head are weak, feeble and inept . The bullying culture is rife and they sweep it under the carpet . we withdrew our son and he is much happier where he is now , very good pastoral care .....DO NOT SUPPORT THIS SCHOOL , trust me , we speak from experience and know a lot of other people in the same situation .

My two boys attend the prep and it is excellent! My brothers also attend when they were younger and are both successful and decent men.
I was reading the other comments on bullying and I think that it’s a little unfair and naive to think that other schools don’t have this problem.
It is an expensive school but you are investing in your child’s education and this school provides everything for that.
I could not be happier and would recommend it to parents who want to give their child a well rounded balanced education.

t's good for both students and parents to figure it out early if the school's values are consistent with theirs. There is no point wasting time, effort and money if you don't benefit from it.
I know too many other ex-students still suffering in their mid-twenties not to post this warning. It's not for everyone, despite what they tell you. They want and will promote private-school poster boys, the rest are told to stand on the sideline and be a cheer squad for them.
There is still a bullying culture at Kings with kids being singled out and degraded by a few protected teachers and coaches of major teams. Grown men bullying boys, not great.
If you're not into sport then it's really tough. Fine arts teachers get bullied and belittled with a number having to leave with little support. The nurturing is for the stronger boys, not everyone.

From most parents, that I know that have or did have boys there seems to be a consensus that bullying is prevalent. Probably the culture of the school from way back . Reflects the lack of managements unwillingness to take appropriate action to purge that culture, you would not expect it in this day and age. It seems all sweet on the face of it but lurking behind , who knows , your own your own in making a decision to have children attend that school

If your son is built up, and is pretty much a jock he'll get along great. but if he's small and introverted he will get bullied, and there have been numerous circumstances where the school has failed to act accordingly. king's has a strong bullying culture. the teachers and facilities are great, and there is a lot of opportunity but sanity gets priority.

My son has attended Kings for 9 years. The school is not perfect (nowhere is), but my son has had a very positive experience so far. Sport is a big factor at Kings, which my son loves luckily. The teachers on the whole are always available to email etc.. and the relationship between the boys and the staff is excellent. The boys that I know are well mannered, polite and respectful when the situation requires. I am happy with the school and my son loves it, ( be warned it is a big commitment with after school training, cadets and weekend sport) I highly recommend.

Former student. If your boy is a big, rough and tumble kid who will be good at rugby or rowing then he will excel and grow. The Kings School is not for everyone. Not because of their fees but because the discipline and structure. The school offers many opportunities for the boys to explore, excel and contribute. Their attitude towards leading is by serving and I see this in the teachers who will respond to emails late into the evening to reassure a parent like me. It's good for both students and parents to figure it out early if the school's values are consistent with theirs. There is no point wasting time, effort and money if you don't benefit from it.
