The teachers at this school have such a lack of discipline, it's appalling. They treat us like children, but expect us to behave like adults. They constantly shrug our opinions off and the way the teachers teach is genuinely useless. The teachers clearly pick favourites and are incredibly bias, and there are only very few teachers that when you go into their classes, you come out having actually learnt something. Don't get me started on the uniform and the bullying problems. Too many kids at this school get bullied on a daily basis, and the teachers do nothing. If teachers were shown a picture of a bully punching someone in the face, clearly in their uniform, but with a small Nike tick on their sock, the school would call him in for the sock. FOR THE SOCK. Do your child a favour, don't enroll them in this sad excuse of a school.

I love the sports and the education also the teachers. And how they care for the students and put effort to teach the classes every day.

St Helena is grate with education and sports. The teachers love there job and are very supportive but the problem is with bullying so as Children that have behaviour issues they control the class the teachers do nothing about bullying and can’t discipline the students properly . I have moved from this school and much happier I miss the sports the most and it has made me love pe more.
I wouldn’t send your child here because of bullying , feeling left out and the discipline.

I am ver disappointed in St Helena Secondry College. I find The staff are out of touch with mental health and well being of the students at the school, the bulling at st Helena is horrifying and all too often students are being put into the “too hard basket” with no support and empty promises of support from St Helena therefor forcing the student to go to other schools and being bullied out by staff. Be careful when choosing St Helena Secondary College. Be prepared to find it I impossible to discuss important issues regarding your child’s education and well being over all with the head principal as well as being told when approaching and trying to organise meetings with staff that they can y offer you two minutes of their time. You have to work around them not the school support you or do their job of providing a healthy environment for your child. Not a healthy school St Helena Seconary College.

I was bullied and no one would sit with me or people wouldn’t let me hang out with them and kept running away or let me in group work but education is excellent and I love there sport programs
I would agree with this school for better education and sports.

I am a student at St Helena secondary college, and I must say, the teachers here show that they don’t care and there uniform policy is un fair. I understand that the rules are the rules, but they should at least make girl pants like Monty, Greensy, viewbank and most other schools have for there winter uniform. The sports uniform is comfortable but they should make a jumper for it. If they want us to take pride in the school and the uniform, they should take pride it sorting the uniform out, because clearly with all the complaints they haven’t done a good job. Though most teachers are really bad, there are few good ones that I would like to thank for there support and overall respectfulness who make the school worth going to. English last year was amazing and I got the work that needed to be done completed, but this year the results are going down hill because the disrespect from one of the year 8/9 English teachers. Must say though it’s a very easy set out with four periods a day it makes everyone’s life better

I had to move my son from this school due to bullying issues. He was king hit by another student totally unprovoked. He came home from school with torn uniforms, his books and other stuff constantly stollen and a burn to his arm . I went to the principal who was very understanding and empathetic but nothing changed so I moved schools. I don’t think it is a ‘bad’ school There were some great teachers and opportunities there , maybe just a bad year or the wrong school for my child.

I was a student at St Helena many years ago. This was back before there was any bully policy. I was put into hospital twice before teachers acknowledged that there was a serious issue. Nonetheless i moved on and made a success for myself. Plus i still keep in touch with the students. Some teachers methods of teaching were a little to be desired, but some teachers there i owe so much gratitude to (those teachers are still there too). Compared to other schools in the area (monty, montmerency, greensborough, this was by far the better choice.
My opinion on the technology aspects...far superior to local competitors, parents are well informed with online intranet, direct communication with teachers (direct email), plus for those parents who like statistics....well you will be in your element. Parents can even keep track records of submitted/outstanding homework, and receive an email if the kids skip class.
School uniforms are still uncomfortable by the looks of it, and they are very strict on acceptable wardrobe (and accessories).
Look, if you want your kids to go to a private school and can afford it...send them to one. This is the closest you'll get to a public school with private school behaviours.
They also have the least amount of drop outs, drop kicks and drug addicts in the north east suburbs.
As for Alumnus's comments, not sure what it was meant by homophobia or racism as its multicultural and some of the teachers are gay themselves.
The downsides are....smart kids appear to be favoured where slower kids get left behind, and they need to work on tackling depression, bullying, and other personal issues to increase self esteem.
Thats my 2 cents.

I go to st Helena. I think it is an amazing school with lots of potential and it is a link to every child's future. He teachers are lovely and they care for every student and only want them to 'dare to be excellent'. The principle is beautiful and does so much for the school. I recommended St Helena. It is amazing

This government secondary school is a prime example of "you only get what you pay for".

I don't know what school Alumnus went to - I don't think it was St Helena. I have had four children at the school and it has gone from strength to strength. There are heaps of extra curricular activities and all four of my children did really well - one in VCE and the other three in VET and VCE. The school has high expectations of behaviour and work but i think thats' good.

"The College is a vibrant learning institution with a progressive attitude to change" is probably one of the least accurate descriptions of St Helena Secondary College. Homophobia and racism is evident amongst teachers and students alike, and the general attitude towards the issue is one of apathy. The "college uses data to inform practice and improve student outcomes" because at St Helena, students aren't treated as individuals who have different needs, but as numbers that should conform to a certain model so as to make the jobs of the staff who deal with them that much easier. While obviously some staff are an exception, generally those who are in a position of authority at the school are not. If you wish your child to develop into a well-rounded, tolerant and respectful individual who retains some semblance of self-esteem when they leave school, St Helena is not for them.

At st Helena we get a great education and they really do care how well we do in our work, the teachers push us to achieve our personal best. However the rules regarding uniform are to strict and unrealistic for a public school. They have the girls kneel in the theater and measure their dresses and skirts with a ruler many of them feel that this is an invasion of personal space. The uniform is uncomfortable which distracts us from our learning.
