Originally, we had very high hopes about this school and although warned about bullying from other parents still enrolled. Unfortunately, the bullying has made us regret this decision. Bullying policies at the school do not appear to be working as unprovoked physical assaults like kicking of students from behind go without punishment. There definitely is favoritism inregards to some sports and students who get selected for certain events. The so called it is about fun and not winning attitude disappears when certain strong students always end up in same football team together although the football teams are supposedly randomly selected and this group are pushed to win whilst the others in same age group get soundly beaten. Which disheartens other students. The schools merit point program is manipulated by some who join sporting events not with the aim of competing or trying but to just obtain points to the detriment of those trying to win their games.

went to this school and had to leave after 2 year unfortunately this school only favours the “smart kids” and gives them benefits and what not while the struggling kids get called the “issue” at the school a teacher told a kid in my class that he should get out of the school because he brought the class average down wasn’t even his fault he was on holiday for a month also too many kids saying the n word despite being whiter then a cloud and please explain to my why the smart kids always get the benefits and the support and everything also the well-being team has absolutely no clue what there doing ik a friend that went there and he went to the well being area and he told them that he has been having problems didn’t even specify what problems then the well being team decided to file a police report saying his parents are abusive

the school nurse is awful legit told me to leave her office because i came in with a stomach ache and she told me go back to class and don’t waste my time 2 hours later i was sent hospital to get my appendix removed.. also saw a student come in and she told him to leave and he was legit bleeding i don’t get how they even hired her she seriously needs to go even i could do a better job then her

I highly regard GWSC for its academic merit and opportunities made available to students. It's facilities were fantastic and for me personally it was a school I am proud of and set up me up for success in University.
With that said, I've read the comments above around the social aspects and I completely agree. There was a significant lack of support for those that were struggling and favoritism was very apparent. To the extent I would say some of the those in leadership roles in the school should be ashamed to consider themselves teachers. Those that were left behind now struggle in life with low confidence and a lack of direction. I would argue the school taught them that there is no place for them in this competitive society.
I know graduates of all levels from 1998 until 2017 and the culture was consistent. It's important to be mindful before sending your kids there. Those that are academically minded will succeed in an environment like GWSC and I would argue will be better equipped for tertiary education than many private school graduates. Those that are not so academically minded may be negatively impacted and it will be too late for intervention.

I graduated in 2019. This high school was incredibly poor in managing students who suffered from mental health problems. There was a lot of favoritism from staff to students who were academically good, where as there was no supports for students who struggled. This was also true for students who had behavior issues, they were encouraged to leave the school and labelled as the issue, rather than offering support to them. There was no guidance from staff about exploring further pathways that did not involve university, it really shamed a lot of students who did not want to go to university straight after school. Senior staff would be known to collude with students, and were over heard often bitching about students. It was a mixed experience, but overall would advise going to another school.

Our son was moved to GWSC from another school since we relocated to Glen Waverley. Academically speaking, the school has an excellent reputation. Socially speaking, it's the worst school our son has ever been to. Not only did he feel isolated during the transition from one school to another, but a strict discipline was imposed on him and he started to be labeled by the school as he was barely able to integrate into their ‘system', and the false mentality of staff members and students who everything they did but ridicule him. It was a real nightmare for him, 'a prison' as he describes it. If you are looking for a school where mental health is more important than academic achievements, please do not send your kids here!

Excellent school, focused on academics and discipline. Good music exposure, spring/autumn concerts as well as band performances in other schools. Sports - lot of state victories in cricket, badminton. Mostly asian background of students. Keep a good tab on kids company and general behaviour.

I highly have disliked my time spent at this school, where bullying is a MAJOR issue, yet the school has absolutely NO idea on how to handle the matter. The principal is ridiculous, and has had many sexist allegations thrown at her yet somehow has this position, and abuses her power and authority to create stupid rules, such as closing our toilets, and barely BARELY, having any co-corricular activities. Do not recommend sending your child here, a ‘good’ academic school isn’t worth all the mental health and stress issues that will arise with going here.

I attended this school in the 1990s i could only describe it as a living hell hole. The abuse from students and teachers i suffered has ruined my life. I was taught from a young age that school was not a safe place. I branded a liar from senior management and the abuse/ bullying continued. I have suffered so much please don't send your children here. I can never have the life i should have had.

Honestly, this school is pretty average besides for all the bullying going on. There are people being discriminated and define by their race. Your level depends on your race. Disappointing. Happy to be an ex student

The school is good in some aspects. But too many useless policies about uniform and timetable. It feels as if the school could be spending their time on bigger issues such as wellbeing and/or education. I'm not sure if this is just because of the Australian curriculum but it also feels like everything is rushed too much as well and the teachers don't have time to explain everything thourghly.
I also don't like the principal and teachers in higher positions abuse their power and authority to make ridiculous rules in order to control us and target students when matters arise especially if it may harm the schools repuatation in any way. I have never been singled out myself but i have seen it happen to many students unfairly.
I also believe that the school cares a lot more about their reputation then they do about what the students. Even as far back as grade nine, many teachers still recommend students against subjects they may be interested in for future VCE based on the scores they recieve as early as then instead of trying to support students to become better in their subject so they can work their way towards it.
Many of the teachers subtly disencourage students and there's also too much favouritism.
But all that being said,there are also many good teachers in this school too that are beyond amazing and make students really excited to learn and there are really nice students as well as discriminative students.
At the end of the day it really depends which crowd you fall into.
One thing I will say that the school does well is build a safe environment but unfortunately a safe environment doesn't always mean a happy one.

The school created the best learning environment for students around eastern Melbourne. It is simply the best amount the government schools and better than most of private schools. The teachers are friendly and kind. Even though people arguing about the tutoring rates of students, but almost all the high performing schools have a private tutoring rate more than 50%. Those include the top 5o private school in victoria.

Average school. Students are tutored outside school so get good grades. The school do not let the students sit for the papers which they are not expected to do well and ask to differ to achieve good ranking. Not a good choice for students who are from non Asian backgrund.

like all government schools teachers are public servants who dont care about teaching much. staff are rude. guess they are sick of dealing with non english speaking parents all the time.
the good vce results are not of good teaching but of private tutoring.

Sad to hear about what's happening.
That shouldn't be happening at any school.
What is the school doing about that issue?
Best speak to the Andrews government as protest as there is a big push To stop anti bullying at schools.
No child should be subject to this crap and the school should be actioning this asap.
More than likely this is only a minority of students as the school is said to be the one of the best in Victoria as quoted in the paper earlier in the year.

As a student at GWSC since 2012 (starting Yr 12 this year, enrolled in Year 8) I can honestly say that the school is great. I've made some amazing friends during the past few years and I've managed to perform well in almost all of my subjects. Most of the teachers are very knowledgeable, although their teaching styles and strictness can vary dramatically, so just hope you don't get stuck with all the 'bad' teachers for a full year, as it can be a pain at times.

GWSC provides the right educational setting for parents and children who desire scholastic success. If parents and children want REAL AUSSIE FLAVOUR (drugs, premarital sex, teen pregnancy) they can easily enrol them elsewhere.

excellent school, teachers look after my kid well, never worry about students' abecency or concentrating in class. Different culture background can make better ways for better outcome of education. But some staff, especially, administrators/receptionists could be impatient that could be exhauting?

I love the school!! As a parent I am very happy and impressed with all the Principals and teachers of how much they care and concern. Programs are great music programs are amazing. Teachers are all working as hard as the students. If parents not happy with the school should withdraw their kids as it is no good for kids to stay at a school for six years if they dun appreciate what GWSC can offer. I will give the school a 5 out of 5! All my neighbours grown up kids were graduated from there. They are all well mannered, grateful for the school. One is a GP, one is a Cardiologist, GM and so on. Having said that, parents are providing the most important foundation and role to their own child. And the child itself should take responsibility too!

Student scores are due to proliferation of out-of-school tutoring in the student body. It has nothing to do with teaching quality or the school. The only thing the school does is prevent students from taking the vce subjects they wish to take, because their past results given by subpar teachers were not stellar.
The school administrators also have a very poor attitude towards mental health. They have made numerous pitfalls in dealing with such matters with more than one student. Further, they are far from supportive of students who are not performing well, preferring them to transfer or drop out. Teachers and staff give such students a hard time.

Most of students are tutored, therefore basic fundamentals are skipped in class. High academic scores due to tutoring and not related to quality of teaching. Teachers are false positives!

I hear that the students get excellent grades. I would want my two children to learn there, as well.
I prefer the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural background; the students will in time become more tolerant and just citizens of this great country.
