I was one of the schools VCE graduates last year, and I cannot commend highly enough the effort and the passion the teachers have in tutoring their pupils. Many of the teachers go far beyond their obligations as teachers for the sake of their students, not to score points, but because they want to see their students achieve their best. I have not seen a single one of them drink alcohol, smoke or do any illegal drug. The teachers definitely do not bully students (its actually the other way round, from what I've observed), so ignore those rubbish reviews written by angry students. The teachers are genuinely good people.
The teachers all teach in their own unique ways, all of which contribute to assessment both in the final stages of VCE and even into tertiary study. One good example is my VCE English teacher, who got us to do many practice essays to build our essay writing skills, so that when the final English exam came about, we knew what to do and how to structure our writing.
I cannot speak for the humanities curriculum, but the teaching of science was really well done. In Chemistry, our teacher took to a supported tertiary-style teaching approach, which came in very handy for when I started my degree, as I was familiar with the method of teaching. The methods teachers I had were also very engaging, taking extra steps to ensure we understand what we are being taught. The school taught us to prepare very well.
There is a mindset among all teachers to put your head down and work to lift your grades yourself, teaching us academic independence and responsibility for our success. Some students had clearly demonstrated their inability to handle this increased responsibility and initiative requirement, often resorting to saying mean things both on this site and in the classroom. Don't listen to them. I'm gobsmacked that some of them even passed, yet alone getting into university.
Behavioural management is a bit hit and miss, however, I have found that when bad behaviour is caught out, it is dealt with very well. This is commonplace in all schools, but I've found this school to be pretty good with it compared to the other schools I have been to.
This is a really good place to send your child, especially for secondary study. Environment and dedication is really nice, and teachers care about their students and what they do, none of them care only about their wallets. Take it from a member of the first cohort of graduates :)

This school is rapidly changing becoming bigger and better each year. The only issue I have with this school is that the teacher is very biased and tend to give the same students compass commendations. I wouldn't mind this if it weren't for the fact that the commendations could be traded in for money in the form of a voucher for the school canteen. I see myself as I good student compared to most of my peers and I see the boy who is constantly calling out and talking back to the teacher has 26 of these commendations and I only have 14. Seeing this can affect your mental health as it can make you think if there's a point in being a good student. Another reason why the teachers are biased is in P.E they people vote boys vs girls which means the male students are at a major disadvantage. The most athletic and sporty male students get brought to the girls' side and teachers such as Mr T also go on the girl's side. The teacher also use all the power and might to smack students as hard as heavenly possible so much so one of my good friends go a red mark on his stomach and was basically crying in pain, he described it as "A horrible stinging pain that just lingers." As for the students they are rude and whiny little brats who cry to get their own way. No this is not in grade 1 We are grade 6 and basically in year 7 and we still have brats crying to get their own way. Sorry for this long rant but in all this school does have amazing facilities and is very good to send your child to but just keep in mind about the teachers and students at this place.

this school is the worst I have ever been too i honesty want to go bad to NSW. for the parents reading don't say that I am over reacting because you have not gone to this school have you? you might have gone to the school functions and saw that they are friendly and kind but when you aren't there and your money is rolling into their pockets they are bullying us for the food we bring and they make us do the beep test every week for an hour straight. AN HOUR FOR GOD SAKE. so if any of you parents are thinking of sending you child to this awful place then take my advice and don't.

ok so im in year 8 at this school right now. I’ve got a lot to say about this place. The kids here think they’re funny being homophobic and using racial slurs on the basis. i still have to go to an after school detention for an hour for the sole purpose of wearing the wrong uniform. This school and the kids are uncultured and the Altona college is really strict and has a private school mindset. after year 4 your child is treated like crap. They never renovate the high school classrooms. All the homophobes in this school are disgusting. The teachers doesn’t practise what they preach. and not to forget I hate most kids at this school and they hate me so it’s a win win

the people here are so ghetto and some of the classrooms need a new paint job because they are kinda filthy, it’s pretty at the front but inside the classrooms they are kind of ugly but I believe this school just receive more funding from the government to probably make a swimming area or a theatre because Altona needs it and I think it would be great if Altona college had the chance to do that

The School Principal Julie Krause is of the opinion that Children with Mental Health Conditions or Child that are on the Autistic Spectrum are not vunerable nor should the School be expected to ensure that such kids & their Families receive a sufficient level of support from the School to assist them.
Discrimination, not to mention a violation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Children.
As for the Teachers, they fail to monitor the Students activities on the Computers during Class. The kids have even set up fake Webex Teams so they can communicate their vulgarities to eachother right under the Teachers noses. We always report these instances to the School however very little is ever done to put a stop to this conduct nor to change the disgusting culture running rampant.

Altona College has the potential to be a wonderful school. It's had ups and downs but it is on the way to be a truly great school. With one or two exceptions the teaching staff are dedicated and caring especially in the 7-10 grades.Perhaps a bit more flexibility on the uniform especially on cold days - wearing a school sports jacket shouldn't be an issue as not everyone can afford the blazer and the jumper is still scratchy for some kids. And Mandarin has been a huge disappointment for many kids turning most kids off it rather than engaging them. But so many good things - theme days, great support teachers, smart uniform and better now its been changed. Looking forward to seeing the college get even better.

We have found Altona College to be constantly striving to create a positive learning environment and both our children attend. There are some behavioural issues with children which clearly comes from outside the school. Sadly this can impact the excellent work the staff and the other children do. For those parents who actually care about being proactive for their child, the school is always open to discussions and assistance. And for those children whose parents do not care, the school does their best to help and support those kids as well, no matter what they are like.Truly commendable.Altona College will continue to grow and I would recommend them.

This school is pretty good, I am slightly autistic and the homework that I get is not that hard.Also I have never seen a teacher swear or consume any alcoholic beverages.There are a few crude drawings around the school but those a just from immature kids trying to be edgy.The teachers are good sports is hard, cross country is hard and camp can be scary but camp and cross country are not mandatory.Also the only reason sports is hard is because the teachers want to push you to you're max potential.Yes this school can be underfunded and the uniforms can be uncomfortable but you can get used to them.Well yes the school can be more curriculum oriented but the school system is kind of screwed anyway so they can't really fix that.

Teachers are very good and motivate students. All the teachers are great, but half of the secondary students are immature and do not take their education seriously disrupting the learning of others who actually care about their education. I love this school so much and it beats other schools compared to stokes around the area, I like how they have a formal uniform once they have reacher years 5/6 to prepare them for high school. I enjoy the morning and lunch time training which the sport teachers hold and it really affects me positively on my sport. I like how they combined the school with primary and secondary, saves your parents having to drive to two different schools. Extending to year 12 was an excellent idea.

This school is AMAZING!!! I am a year 8 at this school and I am extremely grateful that my parents sent me to this school. The teachers here are very kind and respectful. They help you catch up on work during break times if students were unable to understand the work. Teachers push students to the best of their abilities and will help every student in the class. People are saying that their children learnt nothing in this school and all I have to say for that is, if you don't want to learn and improve, then you can't. I learnt so many things at this school and teachers have helped me understand difficult work and have helped improve as there is always room for improvement. Physical education in this school is NOT torture, in fact, all the tasks we do in P.E have helped me improve my fitness and strength a lot. I am Incredibly grateful for the teachers and staff at this school for comforting, teaching and helping me. Thank you, keep up the hard work Altona College!!

This school is amazing and the teachers are amazing. Bullying happens very rarely in this school and when it does happen there is a stop put to it immediately. When you ask the teachers for help they will help you immediately. They are all very respectful and kind. The teachers care about everyone’s health and fitness. Dugs, alcohol and smoking has never ever been done on school grounds. Altona College is amazing. I definitely recommend Altona College for your child.

My daughter went to this school from 2016 to half way 2018. All I can say this school is pathetic. The principal is a moron. She is full of shit doesn’t care about students. If there is a problem with your child she just lets the male teachers deal with it. And they are assholes. My daughter had to go through counseling see a psychologist to deal with her problems. I would never recommend this school to any kids. Kids do drugs carry weapons in their bags.still nothing was done about it. Thank god I changed my daughter to a different school. It’s all good now.

Education is great, and I believe that the reason students are reporting is their mentality, poor mentality blames the school and the teachers within the school. This school has been really great compared to some private schools. They deal with bullying great, and the staff is excellent. The private school I use to attend dealt with bullying very poorly. When I got bullied they said bullying doesn't exist in a Catholic school, I also recently witnessed a group of year 6s, picking on this year 3 with a disability even in church. Were as Altona college they treat people with special needs with great respect.
Also not to forget, the staff is excellent, in both primary and secondary. I highly suggest sending your child here.

This school has been really good for my child. As I scrolled down the list of comments I am appalled by a few inaccuracies.
The teachers in this school are amazing. They do not bully their students, nor do they partake in smoking or alcohol consumption on the grounds. The teachers are well respected by both the students and teachers alike.
The amenities in this school are fantastic and the students get to partake in amazing programs that they school provide.
Perhaps we need to look at ourselves as parents and see what we are teaching our children. Teachers pushing their students to achieve higher standards is not bullying. Children having an argument is not bullying and perhaps as parents we sometimes need to let our children figure out things for themselves - like our parents did for us.
If we coddle our children what kind of adults will we be raising. Not everything is bullying. A teacher threatening detention for unfinished/incomplete work is not bullying. What is going to happen to this generation -whose parents cry foul when the teachers try to discipline their children. I for one was given detention in school are an happy to report have had no lasting effects.
Bullying is a serious issue that some people have to face daily, however having said that I don’t believe that this school has a real bullying issue. The school is quick to put a stop to anything that resembles bullying.
I think if you want a school that will make sure that your strives for their best than this is the school for you.

This is the WORST school ever in my opinion! Poorly funded, therefore there are poor facilities, teaching, learning opportunities, etc. Thank god I took my child out of this school and moved over to Emmanuel College. He loves it now! He hated this school for the whole duration. How dare they force children to participate in 1km trials, exhausting them and possibly making them vomit from what I've heard from my child! I am a year 7 of this school and I'll admit there there are bullying and horrible teachers in this school. But there aren't that many bad people in the school. Not all students are bad and the teachers really do care. One of my friends never got an award during a year until the teachers asked then she got an award that was accurate to what she learned. She wasn't very good at Mathematics until the teachers and students helped her. I was one of those students. There are many people who care for the school and the Principal and Vice are working on it. The reason why the teachers are strict is because it's frustrating to take care of so many students how would you feel? This school isn't as bad as you think. There are even younger students who have said stuff on this, think about they're future and generation, don't make it horrible for them. I recommend you send your child here.

I'm in year 7 and I've been at this school for a while and it is great. I'm so glad I moved to Altona p-9 college. I've learnt so much, I've made so many friends and the teachers at the school are very polite. The teachers know what's right and know what to do and when. My son was bullied out of this school and any attempts to rectify the issues he was having were shrugged off entirely by staff, the whole experience of this school was just downright appalling, even when he left, attempting to request documentation from the lady in the office was like trying to get blood out of a stone; perhaps it's in her job description to ignore all forms of communication from parents whilst maintaining a cold, passive-aggressive and rude manner both over the phone and in person, if that's the case, she's doing a wonderful job.
I really cannot express in words how shocking the lack of care from the teachers to the students is at Altona P-9 College!!! The school board really need to get involved. Period.

Hi please ignore the bad poor reviews.
My son recently started at this school (2018) and the principal and staff have been very welcoming. The office ladies are wonderful and my son has thrived since attending. The extra curricular activities are great in particular art, AFL, music. My son has made good friends and the students in his class are lovely. The excursions are relevant and socially sound in my opinion. So far the experience for my son and myself as a parent has been wonderful. Also the other parents are lovely too and also want the best for their children. I highly recommend Altona P-9 College.

This school was so bad, I never learnt anything. I hated every single teacher in this school. They can't teach, The food tech teacher couldn't cook or even read a recipe. This school is the worst please get rid of it, or get better teachers. It was so much better when primary and secondary were split up. I hated this school and everything about it!!!

Decent facilities at the college however this school has a lot of downsides to it, My son in year 7 has currently just settled in the college and is very unhappy... I'm a student in year 8, I've been picked on many times by students older or younger than me. This school accepts bullying, They think bullying is alright. Pure terrible this school. The teachers celebrate certain students schools ingoring the fact that they are bullies. I've been bullied countless times and ive always gotten in trouble for it. Trust me, the way this school is run is disgraceful. Constant enviromental and campus dangers. Lack of security, teachers smoke and bring alchohol to school. The teachers largely cover up bullying and literally celebrate the bullys in their newsletters. The students are fine but the facilities and the way the school is run is pure disgrace. The government should close it down cause of how students are treated.

I'm not sure on what to think of this school.
It is my first year here. I didn't know how much pressure and how much anxiety I would be getting from it all.
I didn't like the uniform. I still don't. This is a public school. Down-grade your uniform so kids feel more comfortable in the chosen uniform.
I have seen so many people running to the toilets/break down crying from all the bullying, teachers critising them when they've worked WEEKS on it. Get new staff that encourage people. Not yell at them for trying their nest.
Please control the teachers, too. A lot of them somke and bring alchohol. Its not okay. They're teaching kids bad things.
Also, why do you not care about bullying? My friend and her friend were in the same boat and went to the offcie to ask for some action done about it. You know what the teachers said?
"If they do it again, walk away and say whatever." THAT. DOES. NOT. WORK.
They're all in the same grade for crying out loud! How can they walk away from someonw they're sitting next to, while the teacher would tell the student that is gettinf bullied to be quiet!
Teachers swear. A lot. The get frustrated too easily. They. Are. Just. Mean!
I do well in English. I am now expected to do well in every subject. I don't get how that works tbh..
There are SOME nice people at this school, but they all turn out to be backstabbers. The rest are just bullies.

This school is terrible there are no ways to describe how bad it is it only my first yr at this school and I already want to leave. Teachers are rude to students and don't care. my old homeroom teacher was really nice then he left the school and now my class is like hell and my new teacher said and I quote "HE IS NEVER COMING BACK" about our old homeroom teacher. We have a big bullying problem and in the middle years building there are no air cons because our school just doesn't want to pay for things like that or even busses but yet they spend it on a basketball court. For one of our end of year excursions only 60 students were allowed to go out of like 100 students the school is just out of control. SOMEONE HELP!!!

To be honest I hate this school, My teacher literally gets angry at me if I finish my work too early or too late. I am actually too scred to say "Sorry, miss. I don't get what we have to do?" Because they will just say "Well that means you didn't listen!!" The teachers are ignorant. My daughter attends this school and she is always crying at home due to the fact teachers always pick on her. Altona you need to get your stuff together.

This school is beyond terrible. Teachers are rude and disrespectful. They get angry if you are too fast at work or too slow. Obliviously they need to learn that kids work at a different pace. To all parents; DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS!

Honestly, this school isn't as good as it sounds. These many complaints by student are very much true. My child is currently in year 8 and is frequently complaining to me how student and teacher harass her. One teacher at this school asked her "whos your boyfriend this week" implying that she is a slut. Countless times I've heard about kids running into the toilets crying due to these hurtful comments. Bullying is an issue for such a small school with about 250+ students. I've tried to talk to senior teachers / principals but they simply ignore it and make excuses.
This school has done nothing more to me and my child but abrupt and damaged there career. Staff are horrible and out rightly rude. I'm embarrassed to even send my kid here. They need to GET THERE ACT TOGETHER! :[

Honestly cant wait to move teachers are so rude don't help with anything and its very clear who there favorites are terrible school we do not do exams to get ready for yr 10,11,12 witch is terrible .

The school is horrible. The teachers have favourites and make it extremely obvious to the students that they don't like. They are very unfair when it comes to discipline. Don't like this school and can't wait to move.

The teacher's keep them in if they don't finish up all their work. Everybody goes at a different paste. The teacher's only let their favorites call out, don't do much of their work or even tell the teacher's some answer's to questions. They even yell at them.

Hey, I'm Josh, I am currently in Yr. 4. I am a student at this school! All these mean nasty comments are fake. I have Improved a lot in this school. The teachers / Staff are excellent. They do not Drink or Smoke. I bet that they are jealous that we are a perfect school! Great job Altona P-9!

Hi im devon rego and i attend this school in year four, However i dont belive that the teachers drink and smoke. i have never saw any teachers smoke or drink. I am sure, That no teachers talk about hitting there children i have a lovely teacher and i am saying serious words

Teachers bully the kids and degrade them and senior teachers / principals ignore it and make excuses. A female substitute teacher in 2016 was out rightly rude, can only hope she is gone for 2017 for the sake of the other kids, she is nasty and extremely immature.
Altona P9 remember this - a bad teacher can destroy a students self esteem for a year or for a lifetime and YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT get your act together and demand your teacher's do their jobs properly or tell them to move on. As for the office ladies.. be polite and say who you are when answering the phone, its called being professional. Then maybe you'll learn not to be so rude and abrupt. Stop pretending your a school the cares for the students, its all about getting money out of families and nothing more. Time someone stepped in and took control. Thank god we have left and found a school that at least knows their strengths and weaknesses and doesn't lie.

Hi All,
My Son Harshal Thankur Attended Prep at this school. I am so glad that I send him there. There is a small group of children and teacher (Catlin) takes person care of individuals .
Honestly if I have to rate I will recommend this school better then few private schools.I saw remarkable development in my son?s knowledge and behavior
