I went here in the late 60's when the nuns were in charge and the area was not 'snob central'. Shame how Willoughby has become the domain of the property-owning elite. Was a good little school back then. My mum was born in High street in '29 and told me ol' Fr Darby drank too much and was not a popular man. He refused to baptise my great-aunt's dying baby one night in 1937 and my nan went to his house near the school and gave him a verbal lashing on his doorstep.

I attended this school for the later 3 years of primary schooling but I never really connected well here. I don't doubt that some students thrive, but I felt very excluded by some members of my (extremely small) grade, who all lived walking distance from each other, while I lived on the other side of Willoughby. Whilst this is a non-selective, reasonably low fee cost school, the majority of students are from wealthier, upper middle class families due to the demographics of the area, and towards the end of my time at St Thomas, some very much began to realise it. I have no doubt the quality of the education is quite reasonable, I never felt behind intellectually once I reached high school, however, I happen to distinctly recall the poor attitudes of some students in terms of wealth, status etc, which is ridiculous seeing as the school itself is not private.

I went to this school for seven years and I found it an amazing experience. I learnt so much and the community is so supportive towards students and their families. I miss it very much. I would highly recommend sending your child here, they will experience a great primary school education.
