Dating back to 1852, this would have to be one of the oldest remaining buildings in North East Victoria, at one stage even entertaining the famous explorer Robert OHara Burke in 1854.
Formally known as Black Dog Creek Inn up until the 1920s, this property has remained in the same family since 1935.
From 1854 to 1857 the inn was used by the police as their Black Dog Creek Station barracks, A slab gaol was erected between the hotel and the creek and what remains today still stands in the rear yard of the property.
Hessian once formed the ceilings in both the former lounge and the main bar room but were later replaced with the very striking Wunderlich pressed metal in the 1930s. The original bar makes a grand living area and features an open fire place. The separate lounge is spacious in size and also features a large open fire place. Two bedrooms have direct access to older style bathrooms, whilst bedroom three leads off from the front veranda.
The kitchen has attractive timber ceilings and features gas hotplates and leads onto a small dining area, with dado boards and an open fireplace.
