Prep-grade 3 they run the play based Walker learning program. Some people like, some people don't. Go and have a look for yourself and try read up on it as much as you can and think about if it will suit your child. After prep, the classes are composite, mixed grade 1/2, 3/4, 5/6. School looks great, nice playground to attract people in, but that's not all I wanted from a school. In the younger levels some of their classrooms layout design is squashy with enquiry play material around to distract the kids when they need to focus. Academic results are good because of the socio economics of the area. I personally knew a lot of parents who were doing extra homework because they felt their kids weren't progressing or at required level with that Walker learning early years teaching model. It just doesn't suit everyone. Also a lot do Kumon or tutoring outside of school. Since moving I have been able to compare and find the parent community and staff at my child's new school a stark positive contrast and have no regrets with my decision to leave the school. I know the parent who posted this comment and now that she has taken her daughter to another local Government school I would like to say how disappointed and dismayed I am by your unsubstantiated allegations and comments about our children's school. These comments are completely unfounded and unfair. The school has just undergone a school review by a panel of expert Australian educational consultants. The tool benchmarked our school and teaching methods against all primary schools across Australia (independent, Catholic and government). The results placed St Raphael's in the top 5 - 10% of Australian schools for the work they are doing! This is not about the image of the school - this is about trying to provide the best education for the benefit of our children. You have got it all wrong. This parent has been such a negative presence in our school for many years and since I've known her has had nothing positive to say. She had been told to go and speak with the principal about her concerns. We felt for her daughter on the last day of school this year when she was crying to my child and her classmates saying "I don't want to leave this school, I love this school". This parent needs to have a good look at themselves and see how her negativity will impact on her child. St Raph's is a school that always places the child at the heart of everything they do and I am so disappointed that people hide behind an anonymous forum to air their opinions. The school does not accept or tolerate bullying and emphasises acceptance and inclusion. In fact, the behaviour of the people who post these negative anonymous comments is actually a form of bullying. The school welcomes parents to make an appointment to express any concerns. I suggest that this person keeps her ill-founded and ignorant opinions to herself or I will post her name! Do yourself a favour and learn how to be a positive parent.
